What is the difference between storage, tankless, on demand and instant water heaters?
Tankless and on demand water heaters are the same thing. They both heat water directly without the use of a storage tank. When a hot water tap is turned on, cold water travels through a pipe into the unit. Either a gas burner or an electric element heats the water. As a result, tankless water heaters deliver a constant supply of hot water for as long as you would like. You don’t need to wait for a storage tank to fill up with enough hot water. However, a tankless water heater’s output limits the flow rate. Even though tankless water heaters are often called “instant”, they are not. Storage hot water heaters have a large storage tank that holds between 30-120 gallons of heated water and the water sits in the tank awaiting use. Storage hot water heaters use more energy however, they do not require large concentrations of gas or electricity for regular use.
Instant water heaters are typically installed near a faucet or fixture. A small amount of water is heated in a small tank and made available instantly.
